Friday 9/8 Final day in London, Hampton Court

I am in the Atlanta airport finishing up my blog for this trip. A bit tired so not responsible for any grammatical errors. Sherri and I checked out of the apartment at 10:30 and Ubered to the Holiday Inn next to Heathrow airport. After checking in, we once again used Uber, due to the rain, to have lunch at our favorite Pub. Its only a few blocks from the hotel. Lunch finished, we walked to the closest bus stop and caught the 285 to Hampton Court.  Hampton Court was impressive. Dating back nearly 500 years, it was certainly built to impress and intimidate. You never know who you will see roaming the halls.  We spent several hours walking through different chambers, great halls, kitchens and gardens. This was only a small section of the palace. Thursday 9/7 Imperial War Museum, Shopping spree at Harrods

One thing I have always wanted to do is visit the Imperial War Museum. One trip it was closed for renovations and the next time didn't allow. This trip we set aside a day to visit the museum. We purchased an Oyster card. This card allows you to ride London's transit system with a just a tap on one of the sensors. When it runs out of money, you simply top it up at one of the many kiosks.  We road the DLR (elevated train) to a tube station, transferred to the tube to complete our journey to the museum. On our way, we stopped for lunch at the prince of Wales pub. The food was good and filling. The museum was a short walk and best of all, free!  The ww1 exhibit was by far the most extensive with impressive artifacts on display. Surprisingly the ww11 section was a bit meager in comparison. I suppose the fact that ww11 was so mechanized, it would be difficult to fit all the tanks, planes and cannons into the small spaces.  They also had a hollocost level that was very well done...

Wednesday 9/6 The Tower of London

Sherri and I laid in a little longer than usaual. We needed the rest. The apartment is less than a mile from the Tower of London. We visited the tower in 2013, our first trip to London. We didn't complete the total tour so we always wanted to return to finish.  As we walked, we passed an Enterprise car rental. We inquired if we could return our rental at this location instead of driving across London to Heathrow airport. For a small fee, they would let us return the car. We walked back and retrieved the ca.  We spent the afternoon touring the walls and castle. Our last visit, the line to see the Crown Jewels was 2 plus hours long. We didnt wait in line. This time we walked right in. No line. The artifacts were amazing. Gold scepters, silver plates and cups and of course the amazing crowns.
